Alice Ann “Sandy” Rudy, nee Barbeau, 73, of Belleville, IL, born January 4, 1944, in East St. Louis, IL, died Wednesday, August 2, 2017, at Memorial Hospital, Belleville, IL.

Mrs. Rudy was the Supervisor of Housekeeping at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, Belleville, IL, for many years.  She was the co-owner of Aunt Maggie’s on Main in Columbia, IL, a former co-owner of Rudy’s Café and Sweet Shop, and a former co-owner of Freeburg Bi-Rite Grocery.  Alice enjoyed her Wednesday lunches with the ladies and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her kids and grandkids.  She loved visiting her cousins, Bonnie, Bobby, Jenny, and their families, in Colorado.  Alice also loved to work on word search puzzles, colored pencil drawings, and play bingo.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Elouise, nee Kreider, Barbeau; a sister, Mary Sloan; and aunts and uncles.

Surviving are her special friend and father of her children, John Rudy of Belleville, IL;
a daughter, Jacqueline Tewell (Scott Oller) of Belleville, IL;
a son, Craig Rudy (Ed Henton) of Belleville, IL;
two grandchildren, Derrick Tewell (fiancee Krystle Kaiser) of Smithton, IL,  and Ryan Tewell of Fountain Hills, AZ;
two sisters-in-law, Margaret Rudy and Wilma Hinkl;
a brother-in-law, Bryan “Buzz” Sloan;
nieces and nephews, Chris (John) Sloan and their children, Nathan and Matthew, David (Christi) Sloan and their son Jonathan, and Scott (Nicole) Sloan and their children, Carter and Benjamin;
dear friends, Sue, Dora, Fannie, Joyce, Shirley, Gail, and her long-time hairdresser, Jill;
a “daughter from another mother”, Paula (Dick) Mense and their children Rachael and Richie;
other nieces, nephews, and cousins;
grand-dogs, Hope and Rachel;
and a grand-cat, Chester (whom she hated).

 God saw you were getting tired,
And a cure was not to be,
So He put His arms around you,
And whispered, “Come with Me.”

 With tearful eyes and heavy hearts
We watched you fade away.
Although we loved you dearly,
We could not make you stay.

 A golden heart stopped beating,
Working hands were put to rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes the best.
