Lisbeth Azar Knepper

Lisbeth Knepper, nee Azar, 61, fortified with the sacraments of Holy Mother Church, passed away on Sunday, December 11, 2016, surrounded by her loved ones, following a courageous six-month battle with cancer.

Liz was born June 25, 1955, in Belleville, IL.  She graduated from Althoff Catholic High School in 1973, and received her associate degree in business from Hickey College in 1977.  Liz’s intelligence, organizational abilities and creative problem-solving skills made her an extraordinary executive administrator, working in challenging legal and business environments, and ultimately running the family’s successful construction business.  In addition, she was a member of the St. Clair County Junior Service Club and sole proprietor of Aunt Liz’s Toffee.

She was the dear daughter of the late Mildred and Dr. Philip Azar.  Also preceding her in death are her two brothers, Joseph and Charles Azar; and her brother-in-law, Scott Knepper.

Lisbeth was the beloved wife of Kevin F. Knepper and loving mother of Kevin F. Knepper Jr.

Surviving in addition to her family are her siblings,

Philip L. Azar, Jr., Esq. of Chicago, IL,

Dr. Mark (Patricia) Azar of St. Louis, MO,

Dr. Alan (Caryn) Azar of O’Fallon, IL,

Rosanne (Patrick) Mathis of Belleville, IL,

Geralyn (James) Eichelberger of Waterloo, IL,

and Janice (Richard) Goodman of St. Louis, MO.

Liz’s entire life was centered on bringing joy to others, placing her family and anyone in need before herself.  She treasured her 19 nieces and nephews and 10 great-nieces and great-nephews, all of whom felt a special bond with their Aunt Liz.  She was a special friend to the Poor Clare nuns of Belleville.  Blessed are those who were lucky enough to have known and loved Liz.  We will be eternally grateful for her generous and selfless spirit, and we will always remember her as the kindest and most loving person in each of our lives.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Poor Clare Monastery, 300 N. 60th St., Belleville, IL 62223, or the de Greeff Hospice House, 10024 Kennerly Road, St. Louis, MO 63128, would be appreciated.  Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.rennerfh.com.

Visitation: Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, December 16, 2016, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, IL, and 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, December 17, 2016, at St. Henry Catholic Church, Belleville, IL.

Funeral: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 17, 2016, at St. Henry Catholic Church, Belleville, IL, with Rev. Kenneth York and Fr. Clyde Grogan concelebrating.

Burial will be at Mt. Carmel Catholic Cemetery, Belleville, IL.

Condolences Left For Lisbeth Azar Knepper

    From our family to yours,
Many happy memories. The laughter and smile particularly, so infectious, what a special gift!
A beautiful lady who will be missed by many.
Sincere condolences to all of your family.

Jeanne Berard, Holts Summit, MO, 65043

I knew Liz after Notre Dame merged with Althoff in 1972. We dated, went to the senior prom together and had some fun times in the summer of '73 at the Vandalia home. In the fall, we both enrolled at St. Louis University and spent lots of time together.

When Liz left SLU, our relationship ended, but not our friendship.

Ironically, I saw her after many years at Renner Funeral Home in February 2015 at the wake for my brother.

I will never forget her smile and her laugh. Rest in peace, dear Liz. I know you're catching up with your parents and your brothers.

    Til we meet again,

To all the Azars - my deepest sympathies on the loss of you sister, I remember the loss of your parents and your brothers. I ran into Lizbeth some months ago and she told me of her illness. Due to work constraints I'm not sure I can make the services tomorrow, but please now that you are in my prayers, and hope that God places his/her hands upon her. Rest in peace, my friend

Sincere thoughts of sympathy for you and family, Phil. While still in Belleville, I mourned Joe and Chuck, and held your parents in very high regard. Left Althoff, 1968, so no opportunity to meet your sister. My loss! John McAteer

Dear friends: I am so sorry I missed Liz's wake and funeral. I wasn't aware of her death until later, or of her illness. My memories of the Azar family have always been vivid and a blessing. I talked to Liz on the phone not too many years ago. She had sent me a card of thanks after visiting Mildred.
Thanks for all and again am so sorry for my absence. Peace and good.

    Dear Azar/Knepper Family,
I am shocked and deeply saddened to read of Liz''s passing. She was a dear friend since H.S. @ Althoff as all of the Azar girls are to me. Mrs. Azar was my nursing instructor. The connection to this lovely family goes on.
Please know that Liz and all of you will be in my prayers.
    Sincerely, Nancy T.

Liz was one of the nicest people in our grade school class at St. Henry's School--all day and every day--for eight years. She made the world a better place in which to live.
