William P. Mentzer

William P. Mentzer, 65, of Shiloh, IL, born January 25, 1941, in Belleville, IL, died Thursday, October 5, 2006, from injuries sustained as the result of an automobile accident.                       

Mr. Mentzer had a 22-year career at International Shoe Company in St. Louis, MO.  He was also a local businessman involved in the manufactured housing industry.  Bill was a member of St. Clair Masonic Lodge 24; the Scottish Rite Bodies of Southern Illinois; the Ainad Shriners; and the Dania Shrine Club of O'Fallon.  He was also a member of the Lake of the Ozarks Elks Lodge 2517; the Lake of the Ozarks Shrine Club; and the Fort Myers Beach, FL, Moose Lodge.  Mr. Mentzer served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves and was a member of AMVETS.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William H. and Lillian, nee Deskin, Mentzer; his grandparents; and aunts and uncles.

Surviving are his wife of 26 years, Catherine "Shirley", nee Matya, Mentzer, whom he married May 28, 1980;

his children and stepchildren, Paul (Stacy) Mentzer of Swansea, IL,

     Craig (Joan) Mentzer and Chris (Tracy) Mentzer, both of Swansea, IL,

     Steven (Erin) Clifford of Belleville, IL,

     Gary (Ellen) Clifford of Sierra Vista, AZ

     Cheryl (Bob) DeArmon of Tulsa, OK,

     and Donald (Pam) Clifford of Omaha, NB;

19 grandchildren, Carson and Lily Mentzer, Allyson, Jillian, and Ryan Mentzer,

     Owen and Ella Mentzer, Thomas, Nicholas, and Travis Clifford,

     Jessica and Marc Clifford, Travis and Beau DeArmon,

and Lisa, Michelle, Sara, Karen, and Claire Clifford;

2 great-grandchildren, Aerie and Rylee;

his brother, Thomas (Linda) Mentzer of Millstadt, IL;

and nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, October 11, 2006, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, IL.

Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 12, 2006, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, IL, with the Rev. Drew Kramer officiating.

Burial will be at Valhalla Gardens of Memory, Belleville, IL.
