John was a Chief Warrant Officer 4 and a United States Postal worker before his retirement. He was a United States Army veteran who served in Vietnam. He received a Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal, and the Joint Meritorious Service Medal during his service. John was a St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan and enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and hiking.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Eliza Marian Potter Penrod; two brothers, Albert Penrod and Billy Gene Moutell; and two sisters, Shirley Penrod Lewis and Patsy Jo Penrod.
Surviving are his wife, Hae Suk Kim Penrod;
a daughter, Patricia G. Penrod;
a son, John K. Penrod;
a sister, LaDonna Sterns;
his mother-in-law, Soon Y Lee;
and numerous nieces and nephews.

Burial with full military honors will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, July 23, 2018, at Jefferson Barracks National cemetery, St. Louis, MO.
