Joseph P. Haverman, 88, of Smithton, IL, born March 12, 1927, in East St. Louis, IL, passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2015, as the result of an automobile accident.

Mr. Haverman was a World War II U.S. Marine Corps veteran, who was wounded in action on Okinawa.  He retired from Estech Chemical Company after 42 years of service.

Joe was a permanent fixture at Freeburg High School baseball games, where he followed two generations of No. 7 for about 35 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John E. and Flora, nee Haege, Haverman; four brothers, John, Robert, Richard, and Donald Haverman; and two sisters, Lorraine (Jim) Woods and Ruth (Larry) Simpson.

Surviving are his wife of nearly 69 years, Doris, nee White, Haverman, whom he married on July 27, 1946;
his daughter, Judith Ann (Ronald) Dill of New Athens, IL;
three grandchildren, Mark (Mandy) Dill of Freeburg, IL,
Cindy (Dave) Erickson of Oswego, IL,
and Lindsay Dill of Hecker, IL;
four great-grandchildren, Ty and Brady Dill of Freeburg, IL,
and Owen and Lexi Erickson of Oswego, IL;
two sisters, Mary McAllister of Highland, IL,
and Lillian Steinkoenig of Granite City, IL;
and many nieces and nephews.

Joe was so proud of his family, and he was our rock, always happy and content with his life.  Words cannot express how much we will miss him FOREVER.

Visitation:  Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 28, 2015, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Freeburg, IL.

Funeral:  Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 29, 2015, at the funeral home with Greg Haege officiating.   Burial with military honors will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO.
