Marie Helen Brown, nee Hagene, 97, of Belleville, IL, born June 9, 1918, in Vergennes, IL, died Sunday, September 20, 2015, at St. Paul’s Home, Belleville, IL.

Mrs. Brown worked as a cafeteria worker at the former Assumption High School, East St. Louis, IL, for 12 years before her retirement.  She was a member of St. Henry’s Catholic Church, Belleville, IL, and a member of the Perpetual Help Sodality at the church.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband of 14 years, Joseph B. Brown, whom she married on December 20, 1945, and who died September 8, 1960; one daughter, Marilyn P. Geiger; her parents, Henry and Helen, nee Althoff, Hagene; one brother, Paul Hagene; one sister, Martha Orr; three brothers-in-law, Thomas Finley, Roy Orr, and Joseph Niemaczek; and one sister-in-law, Marcie Hagene.

Surviving are two sons, Donald (Carol) Brown of Freeburg, IL,
and Richard (Terrie) Brown of Freeland, MI;
one son-in-law, Paul Geiger of Fairmont City, IL;
seven grandchildren, Curtis (Tanya) Brown,
Jonathan (Erica) Brown,
Christopher (Carrie) Brown,
Andrew (Jennifer) Brown,
and Samuel, Mary, and Phillip Geiger;
five great-grandchildren, Evan, Ryan and Colin Brown,
and Piper and Kylie Brown;
one brother Henry (Pauline) Hagene of Sebastian, FL;
and two sisters, Ruth Niemaczek of Caseyville, IL,
and Dorothy Finley of Florida.

Visitation:  Friends may visit from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, September 23, 2015, at George Renner and Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, IL

Funeral:  Funeral procession to leave at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, September 24, 2015, from George Renner and Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, IL, for 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Henry’s Catholic Church, Belleville, IL, with Rev. Kenneth York officiating.

Burial will be at St. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Waterloo, IL.
