Mr. Vehlewald worked as a truck driver for Slay Transportation, St. Louis, MO, for 36 years. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran.
Vernon was preceded in death by his wife, Theresa, nee Fitzgerald, Vehlewald; his parents, Arthur and Nettie, nee Lair, Vehlewald; one granddaughter, Shawn Whitehead; two brothers, Howard and Marvin Vehlewald; and two sisters, Dorothy Sample and Bernice Vehlewald.
Surviving are his three sons, Darren (Angie) Vehlewald of Smithton, IL,
Daniel (Christine) Vehlewald of St. Louis, MO,
and Charles “Don” (Debra) Whitehead of Hillsboro, MO;
nine grandchildren, Charles, Jon, Liam, Cailin,
Damien, Miranda, Buck, Gabrielle, and Grant;
six great-grandchildren;
a brother, Norman Vehlewald;
a sister, Doris Liska.
and nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Memorial visitation will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, May 9, 2015, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Smithton, IL.
Funeral: A Memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 9, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Smithton, IL, with Father Stanley Konieczny officiating. Burial will be at Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, IL, at a later date.
