Mr. Burns worked as a supervisor at Mallinckrodt, St. Louis, MO, before retirement. He was a member of St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Church, Belleville, IL. Mr. Burns was an avid fisherman, enjoyed riding his bicycle, and was the #1 football fan for his grandson. He was a United States Army veteran.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Mary Jane, nee Rieken, Burns; two sisters, Cheryl Goodman and Pam Pahlman; and five brothers-in-law, Tom Moore, Robert Hugyez, Richard Stines, Michael Schuetz, Michael Hawthorne.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Patricia “Pat” D., nee Bailey, Burns, whom he married on August 21, 1971; two daughters, Beth A. (Jeffery) Mueller of Fairview Heights, IL, and Laura S. Burns (friend, Jason Grueneich) of Fairview Heights, IL; five grandchildren, Madison, Christopher, and Jacob Mueller, and Corrie and Charlotte Grueneich; three sisters, Barbara A. Moore of St. Louis, MO, Janice R. Hugyez of Freeburg, IL, and Julie Krafft of Sugar Grove, IL; a brother-in-law, Bob Pahlman of Trenton, IL; four sisters-in-law, Kathy Hawthorne, Marianne Stines, Judy (Gary) Wangelin, and Juanita Schuetz; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral: A funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, July 26, 2022, for a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Church, Belleville, IL, with Msgr. William McGhee officiating.
Private burial will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO, at a later date.
