Donald Edward Lanter, 85, of Swansea, IL, born February 11, 1930, in Belleville, IL, passed away Friday, April 10, 2015, at his residence, surrounded by his family.

Mr. Lanter worked as a truck driver for Hoeffken Brothers Construction Co., Belleville, IL, before his retirement.  He was a member of St. Peter’s Cathedral Parish, Belleville, IL, a member and past-president of the Holy Name Society at the church, and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1028.  Don served on the Swansea Park Board and was a U.S. Navy veteran.

He was preceded in death by a son, Wayne Lanter; his parents, Edward and Cleopha, nee Diekroetger, Lanter; and a sister, Virginia (Norman) Schroeder.

Surviving are his loving wife of 62 years, Wilda R., nee Broussard, Lanter, whom he married on October 4, 1952, in San Diego, CA;
six children, June (Richard) Herschbach of Highland, IL,
Michael Lanter of Creve Coeur, MO,
Steven (Vicki) Lanter of Swansea, IL,
Barbara (Bob) Leveling of Belleville, IL,
Kevin (Cathie) Lanter of Swansea, IL,
and Gregory (Marivie) Lanter of Shoreline, WA;
a daughter-in-law, Patty (Al) Schilling of Belleville, IL;
numerous grandchildren;
numerous great-grandchildren;
two sisters, Charleen (Joe) Ragan of Ocala, FL,
and Joann Lanter of Inverness, FL;
one brother, Dale (Yukie) Lanter of San Diego, CA;
three sisters-in-law, Jeanette (Benny) Bradley of Pasadena, TX,
Marie Kennedy of Benbrook, TX,
and Kay Broussard of Pasadena, TX;
one brother-in-law, James (Sandy) Broussard of Kyle, TX;
and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to St. Peter’s Cathedral.  Condolences may be expressed online at www.rennerfh.com.

Visitation:  Friends may visit from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 13, 2015, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, IL, and from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at St. Peter’s Cathedral, Belleville, IL.

Funeral:  A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at St. Peter’s Cathedral, Belleville, IL, with Msgr. John Myler and Fr. Dennis Voss concelebrating.

Private family burial with military honors will be at a later date at Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, IL.

Don over the years has remained vivid in my memory as a long- time class-mate and friend. He and I went through kindergarten together with Sr. Pacifica and then through our high school years. I cherished our meeting at our last class of ’48 reunion.
