Mr. Emery was a retired captain for the Redlands, CA, Fire Department. He was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Freeburg, IL, and was a former governor for the Loyal Order of the Moose. Howard had been a member of the U.S. Army Reserves.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lorraine, nee Brown, Emery; a son, James Lee Emery; his parents, William Howard and Moureen Lucille, nee Gregory, Emery; and a sister, Judith Gregory.
Surviving are his wife of 4 ½ years, Peggy L., nee Wilderman, Kessler-Emery, whom he married on October 8, 2011;
three sons, Howard Lee Jr. (Holly) Emery of Coeur d’Alene, ID,
Wayne Lee (Sandra Dee) Emery of Riverside, CA,
and Robert Lee (Teresa) Emery of Buckley, WA;
three step-daughters, Sondra Kessler (Luke) Niederhauser of Imperial, MO,
Robin (Tom) Heiken of Smithton, IL,
and Penny Kessler of Freeburg, IL;
numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren;
and a sister, Carolyn Gettman of Highland, CA.

Funeral: A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 7, at St. Paul’s, with Rev. Earl Crecelius officiating.
