Before her marriage, Molly was secretary to the treasurer and assistant treasurer of the Equitable Powder Manufacturing Company in East Alton, Illinois.
Molly and Vic met in seventh grade and were a couple through high school and WW II. They married on October 24, 1947 at Twelfth Street Presbyterian Church, Alton, Illinois. Victor, along with his father and brothers-in-law, built their home on Brentwood Blvd. in Alton. Vic’s job moved them to Clearwater, Florida. Vic retired and they returned to Illinois and settled in Belleville.
Molly enjoyed playing her piano and did so for nearly 80 years. She was a seamstress and taught her daughter to sew. Molly created many counted cross stitch, embroidery and needlepoint items. She belonged to the First United Presbyterian Church in Belleville and was always interested in women’s groups and missions. Molly was a member of the Prayer Shawl Ministry and knitted and crocheted numerous items over the years. She was Moderator of Presbyterian Women of Twelfth Street Presbyterian Church in Alton, Peace Memorial Presbyterian Church in Clearwater, Florida and First United Presbyterian Church in Belleville. She was also past president of the Belleville Women’s Club and was a member of the St. Clair County Garden Club.
Molly was preceded in death by her husband, Victor Lynn in 1995; their son, Richard Lynn in 1992; her parents, Julius and Nora, nee Brueggeman, Voss; two brothers, Louis (Dorothy) Voss and Joseph (Mildred) Voss; two sisters, Winona (Bill) Roller and Dolores (Alvin) Laux; and her mother and father-in-law Victor H. and Julia, nee Timmons, Unterbrink.
Molly is survived by her daughter, Agnes (Gary) Lawrence of Belleville, Illinois; granddaughter, Amy (Brendan) Elli of Champaign, Illinois; and grandson, David (Anna) Lawrence of Columbia, Missouri. She is also survived by her great-grandson, Victor Lawrence Elli; and great-granddaughters, Sophia Lynn Lawrence and Molly Josephine Elli.
The family sincerely thanks the caring and dedicated nurses, aides and staff on Mom’s floor at St. Paul’s. “Miss Molly” made many friends among the residents and staff. Thanks also to Hospice of Southern Illinois for emotional and medical care and support.
