Alden E. Butcher, 95, of Freeburg, IL, born January 9, 1920, in Swanwick, IL, died Tuesday, December 8, 2015, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, MO.

Mr. Butcher had worked as an insurance salesman.  He was a World War U.S. Army veteran, receiving a bronze star for his service in the Battle of Iwo Jima.

Alden was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Mabel, nee Jones, Butcher, who died on October 15, 1983; his parents, Edward Daniel and Jennie Dell, nee Hagler, Butcher; six brothers; and 11 sisters.

Surviving are his son, Gordon (Sandy) Butcher of Freeburg, IL;
his daughter, Marita (Robert) Donohue of O’Fallon, IL;
four grandchildren, Melinda (Coleman) Dean, Todd Donohue (fiancee, Wendi),
Kelli (Rick) Huber, and Brian (Samantha) Donohue;
and a great-granddaughter, Caroline DeWitt.

Funeral:  Private graveside services with military honors were held at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park, Murphysboro, IL.

We will miss our neighbor, Alden. He watched our daughters grow up and always asked about them. He never failed to talk when we met outside. He cared about people which was evident when he cared for our neighbor, Ted Dubink. God Bless Alden.
