Print Obituary
Retired U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. Alphonse “Al” D. Jones, 68, of Murrells Inlet, SC, formerly of Fairview Heights, IL, born May 26, 1947, in Weston, WV, died Saturday, April 16, 2016, at Waccamaw Community Hospital, Murrells Inlet, SC.

After 20 years in active military, Al continued to serve his country through a career in Civil Service Logistics.  Moving to South Carolina after retirement allowed Al and his wife Lee to spend quality time with their family.  An avid sports fan, Al remained loyal to the Detroit Lions (no, that is not a typo), the West Virginia Mountaineers and last, but not least, the St. Louis Cardinals.  More than sports, he loved people and treated everyone like family.  He enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, and his dog, Sammy.  Al will be missed immensely.  When the Lord called him home, Al took a piece of our hearts with him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Freddie and Willelma “Billie”, nee Herron, Jones.

Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Jong, nee Lee, Jones, whom he married on January 21, 1972;
two daughters, Tara (Shawn) Utley,
and Terri (Rod) Utley;
and four grandchildren, Randi, Charli,
Skyla, and Kai.

Memorials may be made to the family, in care of Jong “Lee” Jones. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.rennerfh.com.

Visitation: Friends may visit with the family from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, April 22, 2016, at George Renner and Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, IL.

Funeral:  Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 22, 2016, at the funeral home with Rev. Douglas Stewart officiating.  Burial with military honors will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO

I was a good childhood and teenage friend of Al, Guyton Elementary and Southeastern HS in Detroit. We did so many sports and social things together. I just learned of his passing and feel tremendous loss, I'd always wanted to reconnect with him. Rest in perfect peace Al, sincere heartfelt condolences to family. Bob
