
Mrs. Shafer was an active member of St. Mark Lutheran Church in Belleville. She was a former Sunday School teacher and was a member of the choir at the church. Anita was a Red Cross volunteer with St. Elizabeth’s Hospital and was a member of the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Edward and Ella, nee Dittmann, Hoeferkamp; her step-mother, Esther Wright Hoeferkamp; and a brother, Rev. Robert Hoeferkamp.
Surviving are her husband of 68 years, George Shafer, whom she married on December 4, 1949, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Jonesville, IN;
three children, Mary (John) Reith of Steeleville, IL, David (Karen) Shafer of St. Louis, MO, and Kathleen Casey of Belleville, IL;
four grandchildren, John (Jill) Reith, James (Amy) Reith, Ryan (Shannon) Casey, and Jill (Bryan) Moormann;
nine great-grandchildren, Alex and Ian Reith, Chloe and Willa Reith, Jamison, Patrick, and Braeden Casey, and Kennedy and Connor Moormann;
two brothers, Rev. Harold (Ellie) Hoeferkamp of Gulf Shores, AL, and Rev. Donald Hoeferkamp of St. Louis, MO;
a sister-in-law, Liz Hoeferkamp of Austin, TX;
and nieces and nephews.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, December 18, 2017, at St. Mark Lutheran Church, Belleville, IL, with Rev. Brian Robison officiating.
Burial will be at Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, IL.
