Anthony J. Cordie, 96, of Belleville, IL, born January 6, 1927, in Belleville, IL, died Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at Dammert Geriatric Center at the Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows, Belleville, IL.

Mr. Cordie was a 1944 graduate of Cathedral High School and a World War II veteran of the United States Navy Reserve. He attended Benedictine College and graduated from Saint Louis University. He retired from the United States Army Aviation Systems Command in 1988, after 28 years of service. Tony was a member of the Catholic War Veteran Post #370, Moose Lodge Post #122, and was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Belleville Council 1028. Tony was a long-time member and volunteer at St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Church, Belleville, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Anton and Elizabeth, nee Walter, Cordie; a brother, Lester (Evelyn, nee Fisher) Cordie; two sisters, Eleanor (John) Miller and Florence Cordie; a nephew, Stephen Miller; and a great-niece.

Surviving are his two nephews, Kevin (Diana) Miller and Richard (Patricia) Miller; two nieces, Diane (William) Prather and Shirley (Darrell) Cook; numerous cousins, great-nephews, and great-nieces; and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Benedictine College, Atchison, KS or to St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Church, Belleville, IL. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.rennerfh.com.

Visitation: Friends may visit from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday, December 18, 2023, at St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Church, Belleville, IL.

Funeral:  A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday, December 18, 2023, at St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Church, Belleville, IL, with Msgr. William McGhee officiating.

Burial with military honors will be held at Green Mount Catholic Cemetery, Belleville, IL.

Diane and all your cousins, our family sends our condolences. My dad , Robert Schachner, was a cousin to Tony. My grandmother was Marie Walter Schachner. As a child I remember meeting Tony and Lester and Eleanor. Know that we are thinking about all of your family.
