Arthur Vernier, 89, of Freeburg IL, born September 11, 1934, in Belleville, IL, died Thursday, October 5, 2023, at Freeburg Care Center, Freeburg, IL.

Arthur was a United States Army veteran. He owned his own landscaping and excavating company. He was a volunteer firefighter for the Northwest Volunteer Fire Department for over 40 years. The volunteer fire department was very special to him, he spent most of his spare time working towards improvements. He was a lifetime member of St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Church. Arthur was an avid St. Louis Cardinal Baseball fan and enjoyed tending to his yard.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Leona, nee Dressel, Vernier; two sisters, Gerry Zollner and Nancy (Robert) Sprinz; and a nephew, Brad Rujawitz.

He is survived by his two sisters, Janice Miller, and Bonnie (Rich) Rujawitz; a brother-in-law, Paul Zollner; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois, St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Church, Belleville, IL, or Northwest Fire Dept. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.rennerfh.com.

Visitation: Friends may visit from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Church, Belleville, IL.

Funeral:  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Church, Belleville, IL, with Msgr. William McGhee officiating.

Burial will be Green Mount Catholic Cemetery, Belleville, IL.

Shout out to Art for the many years he spent coaching our little league team. He was a great coach and a great guy.
