Mrs. Asbury had been a 50-year member of St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Church, Belleville, IL, and was currently residing at the Shrine Apartment Community. Her first career as a recent high school graduate was teaching 2nd grade. As a 79-year-old, she could still remember her students’ names and would entertain others with humourous stories about them. Her most important career, however, was being a loving wife and devoted mother.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Walter C. “Bud” Asbury Jr., whom she married on December 28, 1957, and who died on December 5, 2011; her parents, Eugene and Lila, nee Lawless, Bringaze; two sisters, Marian (Robert) Heid and Lila (George) Rabbitt; and a brother, Eugene Bringaze.
Surviving are four daughters and two sons, Agnes (John) Boul
and Anne (John) Ross , both of St. Louis, MO,
Walter (Sharon) Asbury of Trophy, TX,
Gene Asbury of O’Fallon, IL,
Mary (Keith) Hinkebein of Carmel, IN,
and Carolyn “Cary” (Gary) Sheerin of Caseyville, IL;

I am typing this with tears, and am truly heart broken, and would like to express my sincere condolences and prayers to my life long friends, the Asbury family.
You know, I have so many great memories of growing up in our neighborhood. It seemed like most of the time the epicenter of all the fun was ‘at the the Asburys’. The basketball games, the wiffle ball games, the football games, playing ‘colored-eggs’, hide and seek, and all the great times we had there as kids – we were truly blessed, to say the least, to have the welcome, the patience, the guidance of your mother (and father) while all of these great times were happening!
I am truly sorry for you all, and God Bless You Barb Asbury for being there for us and steering us along!
