Bernice Klotz, nee Kessler, 98, of Freeburg, IL, born December 16, 1921, in Freeburg Township, IL, died Monday, December 14, 2020, at Cedar Trails Senior Living, Freeburg, IL.

Mrs. Klotz retired after working for 17 years in the cafeteria at Freeburg Grade School. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Freeburg, IL, and was active in the Women’s Guild and the Quilters Club at the church.  Bernice was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Freeburg Senior Citizens Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Klotz, whom she married on January 31, 1942, and who died on June 17, 1978; three sons, Ronald, Randy, and Richard Klotz; her parents, William and Augusta, nee Vollmer, Kessler; a grandson, Danny Klotz; and a brother, Floyd Kessler.

She is survived by a son, Robert (Peggy) Klotz of Flagler Beach, FL; two daughters-in-law, Judy Klotz, and Michele Klotz, both of Freeburg, IL; seven grandchildren, Kelly (Paul) Wagner, Kim Schuhardt, Ryan (Carrie) Klotz, Rachel (Jeremy) Baldridge, Tony (Jackie) Klotz, Jessica (Lee) Tomlinson, and Jamie (Danny) Hawkinson; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Marilyn (Wayne) Feig of New Athens, IL; and a sister-in-law, Anita Kessler of Freeburg, IL.

Funeral:  Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 17, 2020, at Walnut Hill Cemetery, Belleville, IL, with Rev. Earl Crecelius officiating.

So sorry for your loss. Bernie was a very special person with such great strength. She set a beacon for us to follow, especially during this pandemic. Her sweet, cheerful, friendly attitude helped all who had the privilege of knowing her. She is now with Virgil and no longer suffering pain. May she Rest In Peace. Doris Mae Jones

I’m so sorry to hear about your mom's passing . I have fond memories of her growing up through the years riding her bike and walking around the neighborhood she always had time to stop and say hello . May you find comfort knowing she is at peace

What a special lady! She will be missed. I’m so thankful to have known her. She was a good friend to so many, a woman of character and strength, no nonsense about life’s ups and downs but loved to laugh and have fun with friends and family. Rest In Peace dearest Bernice.
