Betty J. Gardner, nee Haas, 90, of Belleville, IL, born October 10, 1932, died peacefully Sunday, October 30, 2022.

Betty worked for Mutual of Omaha Insurance Company for over 40 years. She was a member of St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Church, Belleville, IL, the Business & Professionals Women’s Club and the Loyal Order of the Moose. She was an avid golfer, bingo player, and card player. She loved her Friday after Thanksgiving shopping sprees with her daughters & granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, James “Jesse” H. Gardner, whom she married June 2, 1953, at Holy Childhood Church, Mascoutah, IL; her parents, Lorence and Theresa, nee Wuebbels, Haas; three brothers, Lawrence “Pete” Haas, Norbert Haas, and David Haas, and two sisters, Bernice Dickhaut Schneider and Doris Woodrum.

Surviving are her daughters, Denise (Bernard) Wicklein of Millstadt, IL
and Barbara (David) Cimarolli of Belleville, IL;
beloved grandmother of, Katharine (Gaetano) Falcone, Robert Wicklein (fiancé Jamie), Emily Cimarolli and Margaret Cimarolli;
great-grandmother to, Gemma Falcone;
four sisters, Rose Medukas, Frances Graul, Bernadine Wells, and Carol (Matt) Dunn;
and many nieces and nephews.

Her family would like to thank the caring and dedicated nurses and staff of Freeburg Care Center, Freeburg, IL. and Hospice of Southern IL for their attentive care and love.

Visitation:  Friends may visit from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Friday, November 4, 2022, at St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Church, Belleville, IL.

Funeral:  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, November 4, 2022, at St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Church, Belleville, IL with Msgr. William McGhee officiating.

A private graveside service will be held.
