Betty M. Gorges, nee Schubert, 90, of Belleville, IL, born September 24, 1932, in Glenham, SD, died Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at Joe’s Place Memory Care Center, O’Fallon, IL.
Betty (also known as Kitty) retired from Haas Bakery in St. Louis. She worked in a pants factory in Belleville in her younger years which led to her love of sewing. She was an accomplished baker and cake decorator. Betty specialized in Christmas cookies which she shared with family and friends. She was active in the deaf community holding a board member position with Living Independently Now Center of Southern Illinois (LINC), a member of the National Association of the Deaf (NAD), Illinois Association of the Deaf (IAD), a member of the Metro East Deaf Community, and the Belleville Deaf Senior Citizens.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 48 years, Frank “Jack” Gorges, who died on April 26, 2005; her 1st husband, Charles (Chuck) Goodwin, who died in 1951; her son, Stanley A. Goodwin; her parents, Walter Henry and Hilda, nee Jensen, Schubert; and two brothers, Walter “Copper” Schubert and Roy Schubert.
She is survived by her daughter, Colleen (Richard) Kelso; her two sons, Dennis (Wanda) Gorges, and Patrick (Lynn) Gorges; six grandchildren, Craig Hartman, Shannon Graham, Shawn Geppert, Krystal Goodwin Tiemeyer, Jerry Leehy, and Lauren Leehy; ten great-grandchildren; a brother, Jack Schubert; two sisters, Ruby Buettner and Peggy (Dale) Caesar; two sisters-in-law, Florence Schubert and Laura Ann Schubert along with nephew Eric Schubert; and multiple nieces and nephews.
