Carl had ASD and faced many challenges in his life, but, in many ways, he was a pioneer as a recipient of services for people with autism. He was one of the first students to attend the Illinois Center for Autism in Fairview Heights, IL. He learned many skills at ICA, including sign language and how to swim. He always enjoyed swimming at the YMCA.
Carl was employed at Pasta Fare in Fairview Heights for more than 20 years, and he really enjoyed working with everyone on his team. He especially enjoyed making cookies because he loved eating them. Carl continued working at Pasta Fare until his health declined last year.
Surviving Carl are his parents;
seven sisters and brothers, Lynn (Vance) Hatcher of Collinsville, IL,
Beth (Rich) Kwentus of Millstadt, IL,
Chris Fournie of O’Fallon, IL,
Eve (John) Holzemer of Fairview Heights, IL,
Fred (Jane) Fournie of Belleville, IL,
Nick (Mary) Fournie of Belleville, IL,
and Jeff (Heidi) Fournie of Millstadt, IL;
and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.
Throughout his life, Carl proved that people with disabilities can achieve much more than we, the able bodied, think they can when they have the right support from people who care about them.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Illinois Center for Autism in Fairview Heights, IL. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.rennerfh.com.
