Mrs. Schmidt worked as a telephone operator at General Telephone Co., Chester, IL, Southwestern Bell Telephone, St. Louis, MO, and finally, Southwestern Bell Telephone, Belleville, IL. Most recently, Carol was a PBX operator at Memorial Hospital, Belleville, IL, before her retirement. A member of St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Church, Belleville, IL, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Carol was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Lawrence “Larry” J. Schmidt, whom she married on July 11, 1953, and who died on November 23, 2002; her parents, Daniel W. and Alma I., nee Douglas, Baggett; a sister, Gloria Miller; and two brothers, Richard Baggett and James Baggett.
Surviving are four sons, Bradley L. (Sue) Schmidt of Belleville, IL, Randy J. Schmidt (Sandy Schwegel) of Swansea, IL, Rick L. (Terri) Schmidt of Freeburg, IL, and Larry J. (Terry) Schmidt of Belleville, IL;
fourteen grandchildren;
twenty-three great-grandchildren;
and a brother, Ronald (Sandy) Baggett of South Roxanna, IL.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 25, 2021, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, IL, with Msgr. William McGhee officiating. Standard CDC guidelines, including masks and social distancing, will be observed.
Burial will be at Green Mount Catholic Cemetery, Belleville, IL.
