Carolyn was a retired secretary for the Department of Defense after almost 30 years of dedicated service. She served her entire Civil Service time with the U.S. Air Force at Scott Air Force Base, IL. She was a lifetime member of the United Church of Christ and a member of the Professional Secretaries Association.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband of 23 years, Clifford E. Crabtree, whom she married on June 3, 1979, at Evangelical United Church of Christ, Highland, IL, and who died on November 8, 2002; and her parents, Elmer A. and Melba, nee Stoecklin, Thiems.
Surviving are three stepchildren, Deidree M. (Byron) Nowak of Belleville, IL,
Tanya Crabtree of St. Louis, MO,
and Keith (Angela) Crabtree of Columbia, IL;
six grandchildren, Sean Nowak, Rhaisha (Zack) Canty, Johnna Schimanski,
Isabella Crabtree, Eva Crabtree, and Maya Crabtree;
two great-grandchildren, Declan Dobbs and Jace Dobbs;
and her brother, Stephen (Bonnie) Thiems of Highland, IL.

Funeral: A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church, with Pastor Will VerDuin officiating. Burial will be in Highland City Cemetery, Highland, IL.
