Cindy Lou was the former cook for Freeburg High School and retired from Empire Comfort Systems, INC. Cindy was an amazing cook and cooked for many restaurants. She had bake sales called Cindy’s Goodies at Farmer’s Market. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Caroline, nee Jones, Hesse; her brother, Milton Hesse; and numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins.
Surviving are her loving husband of 59 years, Elmer Herzog, whom she married on November 11, 1963;
two daughters, Elizabeth Oceguera and Terry Sue (Paul) Hefner;
two sons, Alan Herzog (special friend, Maxine), and Joseph Herzog (Jaclyn);
12 grandchildren, Tiffany (Josh), J.R. (Caitlin), Brock, Paul (Sammi), Jeff (Patty), Cara, Trevor, Kala (Kevin), Michael, Robert (Mattie), Ethan (special friend, Carli), and Tommy;
and 12 great-grandchildren, Breanna, Zachary, Olivia, Maybrie, Andrew, Colin, Elizabeth, Austin, Ryan, Jake, Decker, Kenzie, and Lucas.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Freeburg, IL, with Deacon Corby Valentine officiating.
Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery, New Athens, IL.
