Clara Faltus

Clara E. Faltus, nee Schmisseur, 95, of Belleville, IL, born November 19, 1922, passed away on Saturday, July 14, 2018, at St. Paul’s Nursing Home, Belleville, IL.

Clara and her husband Robert owned the IGA grocery store in New Baden, IL.  She also worked for 23 years as a bookkeeper for Our Lady of the Snows Gift Shop.  Clara loved her flowers, took pride in her lawn, and was an avid Cardinals baseball fan.

Clara was preceded in death by her husband, Robert H. Faltus, whom she married on September 10, 1946, and who died on July 6, 1979; her parents, Joseph and Lena, nee Zogg, Schmisseur; her sister, Florence Schmisseur Lupo; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Henry and Veronica Faltus, Elizabeth and Norbert Schwartz, Dolores and Cletus Schwartz, Francelia and Charles Schumacher, Marie and Norman Poirot, and Margaret Faltus.

Clara is survived by two daughters, Kathy (PJ) Wangler, and Roberta “Bert” (Keith) Scannell;
three granddaughters; Amanda Wangler, Emily (Bob) Brune, and Lauren (Erik) Huber;
three great-granddaughters, Avery and Camryn Brune, and Tess Huber; a brother-in-law, John Lupo; and nieces and nephews.

Clara’s family would like to thank Heartland Hospice for their support during this last year.

Visitation:  Friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday, July 19, 2018, at St. George’s Catholic Church, New Baden, IL.

Funeral:  A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 19, 2018, at St. George’s Catholic Church, New Baden, IL, with Fr. Eugene Neff and Msgr. William McGhee concelebrating.

Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery, New Baden, IL.

Clara was my best friend. I missed her terribly when she moved to St. Paul's and miss her still. Her daughters were kind enough to visit me to let me know that she had passed. That meant the world to me. Rest in peace Clara.

Clara & my mom Delores Meng were part of the Golden Girls at Cedarhurst. They looked forward to eating together and sharing stories. My sister Bonnie & I enjoyed chatting with your family at Cedarhurst. We are very sorry for your loss. Hoping all the memories will remain precious to you.

I'm so sorry to see this. I loved Clara. She was such a joy to work with at the Shrine. She was a neat lady and I really loved our conversations together. May God wrap his loving arms around each and everyone of you during this time. Such a neat woman. I am so glad our paths crossed! Gods Blessings!
