Daniel Wilbur Hamilton, 74, of Smithton, IL, born August 22, 1942, in East St. Louis, IL, died suddenly Thursday, May 25, 2017, at his residence.

Mr. Hamilton was 1960 graduate of Cahokia High School.  He was a 30-year civil service employee, and retired from Scott Air Force Base in 2003.  He was currently working part-time doing dealer trades for Auffenberg Ford.  Dan was a U.S. Army veteran serving at Ford Hood, Texas, from March 1964, to March 1966. He was a member of the American Legion Post 2007, Swansea, IL, of Voiture 40 & 8 (an honor organization of male and female U. S. veterans), and a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 58, Freeburg, IL.

He was a member of the Smithton Sportsman Club and a life member of the Little Devil’s Football Club.  Dan enjoyed fishing, hunting, and watching Cardinals baseball. He was an avid race car fan at Belle-Clair Speedway, at I-55 Raceway, Pevely, MO, at Highland Speedway, Highland, IL, and at Tri-City Speedway, Pontoon Beach, IL.  He also enjoyed Nascar.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur W. “Bud” and Mildred J., nee East, Hamilton; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Daniel D. and Mary Garnet, nee Worsham, Sloas.

Surviving are one his wife of 52 years, Mary Diane, nee Sloas, Hamilton, whom he married on June 12, 1964, at Landsdowne Baptist Church, East St. Louis, IL;
one son, Daniel D. (Jason Buss) Hamilton of Belleville, IL;
a sister-in-law, Sandra Lanzante of Belleville, IL;
a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Deborah and Steve Oakley of Prairie Du Rocher, IL;
nephews; Michael (Cindy) Lanzante,
their sons, Michael, and Christopher (Lisa),
and their son, Jackson,
Paul Lanzante, and his sons, Anthony and Matthew,
Joseph (Cathi) Lanzante, and their children, Meghan and Joshua;
a niece, Shannon, nee Oakley (Brian) Hillier, (Shannon was his peanut butter cookie maker);
numerous cousins;
and many friends.

Visitation:  Friends may visit with the family from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 30, 2017, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, IL. An America Legion Post 2007 ritual will be held at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 30, 2017, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, IL, with Reverend Douglas Stewart officiating.

Burial with military honors will be at Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, IL.

Dan and I worked together in shop. He and Joe did our wedding reception at Freeburg in 1984. We would see each other at the races over the years and catch up on what was going on. Great Friend. Lost contact 6 years ago.
