David worked as a State Farm Insurance agent for over 25 years. During this time, he achieved a great deal of recognition and awards. He was well known for making his customers feel comfortable and satisfied.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary Pauline, nee Rescaldina, Slimack.
Surviving are two daughters, Madeline Slimack Gregory (Luke) and Hannah Slimack of Belleville, IL; a brother, Dr. Joseph P. (Karen) Slimack; a sister, Amy Slimack; and his nephew and niece, Jon (Jordy) and Katie Slimack.
David was a friend to many, always smiling and cracking jokes. When he wasn’t the funniest guy in the room, he was giving words of encouragement and always lending a listening ear. If you were the target of his humor, you knew he was your friend. If you spent time with David, you left with a smile on your face, a full belly, and a good story to share.
He also enjoyed working outside at his home, tending his garden, canning pickles, picking blackberries, and cooking elaborate meals for his friends and family.
His greatest joy were his two girls. He loved them unconditionally and worked hard to give them the world. He was there to cheer on his girls whether he was watching Madeline play volleyball or there to coach Hannah in softball. He was certainly their biggest fan. He enjoyed taking his girls on trips, out boating, or for rides on his Harley. He was proud of what his girls had accomplished and the young ladies they have become.
David was a talented baseball player at Belleville East, Belleville Area College and SIUE. He was a catcher on the SWIC baseball team that made it to the Junior College World Series. His teammates still talk about the unbelievable season he had both behind the plate and with the bat.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Belleville East High School Scholarship Fund for the David Slimack Memorial Scholarship. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.rennerfh.com.
