David Slimack

Well, I'm very sad to hear this news, almost two years after his passing. I knew Dave very well when I lived in Illinois, and his obituary captured everything about him. He was a remarkable, funny guy. When Dave added an addition to his Freeburg home, he hired me to wire the electrical "sometime in the future." Then several months later, he called me back and said, "I'm sorry. My brain is like a bag of cement that got wet. When did I say I'd needed you to wire my addition?" That was the moment when we hit it off. After that, we enjoyed every minute together. I also tried his canned dill pickles. Later, I did electrical work at his State Farm office in Belleville. Several years later, when I moved to Hawaii, I called Dave to see if State Farm would insure my home and automobiles. I thought Dave could get some kind of recognition for a referral, but State Farm didn't have offices in Hawaii. He was very happy I thought of him. My condolences to his family. I miss him.

I've known Dave for 25 years ever since he took over the office in Belleville. He always was a big help whenever I bought a new car whenever I needed help with my insurance. He always called me back like you said he would and was a really good man. I'm so sorry to hear of his passing and I pray for his family. Ill miss you Dave, but I'm sure we will see each other again someday. Take care my friend. God bless

My heartfelt condolences to Dave’s family. Dave has been my family’s insurance agent for many many years… Reading all the posts here I wish I would’ve gotten to know him better. To his family may the peace that passes all understanding keep your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Well, I’m speechless to say the least regarding hearing of this, but I know he is in good hands . What a great friend dating back to grade school. We had many good times over the years . David is a good man , a caring man , and a fun man to be around, and a Great father . We will see each other again. He will be greatly missed. From Mike who you loved me coining your place “not so green acres “ . I Will never forget you falling over headfirst on our farm horse and I knew you would want a farm from that day on with some animals , hay, garden ,barn, and men motor toys , yet all in all men are really still boys at heart —-Rest in peace my good friend.

My condolences to Dave’s family.. I’ve known dave since grade school, he was always the one you wanted to be your square dance partner!! I have many fond memories, and will miss our conversations.. he spoke of his daughters with much pride..his wit and charm will be sorely missed!!

Had the opportunity to play baseball with Dave, tremendous player and just a great person. RIP bother.

Dave you were an agent of mine for many years honest and sincere you were more than a grade school and high school friend to me someone like yourself is hard to come by ill miss your personality for sure well meet again one day!

Dave was a one of a kind guy, always cracking jokes and would do anything to help someone out. It was a joy to go to his place and help him out. I would like so send my condolences to his family. Rest In Peace Dave, you will be missed.

I've known Dave for almost as long as I can remember. We began grade school together. I always left him with a smile on my face and a good story on my mind. I will miss him dearly. Thanks Dave for a great time always!

David, it's Molly in Columbia SC. I choose to speak to you personally though you have passed. The music we spoke of prior to double nickel event in Belleville. James Taylor, Carolina On My Mind, Fire and Rain. We caught up on life , shared pictures your girls and my Mary Grace. Those conversations are treasured I will miss you my friend.

My thoughts have been with the entire Slimack family as they try to find peace in their grief process. The Merwin’s and the Slimack’s friendship and interaction into each other’s life goes way back with Joe and Glenn working together. David and our Lynn went to high school together and our David and Amy knew each other. I heard about Madeline and Hannah from Grandma Mary. She truly loved watching you two. Dave was a good comrade and a great friend. He lived in the real world but always had great advise on how to survive it. I will miss him and his great sense of humor.

my sincere condolences to the Slimack family. I've known David since we were young. i was shocked and saddened to hear the news. David was a good, honest man, and will be missed by many. I'm so sorry for your loss.

From the first time I mentioned wanting to create a public garden near my house in downtown Belleville Dave loved the idea. He pushed me to put a plan on paper. He paid for the first tilling, came and tilled once himself, and wrote a few other checks over the years. I was forbidden to tell anyone about his generosity. He told me that he liked giving people nicknames, mine was Flower. This year he dug up two of his best prized blueberry bushes and some blackberries for our garden. I sent him pictures constantly once the fruit set and he would complain that I was getting more berries than he was at home. Quite a guy. You have a place in my heart friend. ❤

My heart hurts soo bad for the loss of my friend Dave - I met him when he started his training to become an agent and I knew I had a forever friend in him - I will soo miss the laughter he brought to me. My deepest sympathy for David's daughters and family. I have great memories of David from high school, and am now praying that you will experience God's comfort during this time. I appreciate Psalm 34:18 which say, "God is close to the broken-hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." David will be remembered!

Dear family - David was such a joy to anyone who knew him. As an insurance agent he always looked out for his clients and sought to give them his “best”. You can be very proud of him. I was blessed to work with his dad and also when David had someone he couldn’t help in insurance. Cherish your memories of what a great guy he was and how much he loved his family. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Dave was such a sweet soul. He prepared the most elaborate and delicious meal for my birthday last year. He was always encouraging, caring, and thoughtful. He never had a bad thing to say about anyone. I will miss his frequent messages. My heart hurts that I lost a good friend way too soon.
