Dennis Deckard

Print Obituary
Dennis Jule Deckard, 74, of Alton, IL, died Sunday, September 19, 2021, at Saint Louis University Hospital, St. Louis, MO.

The world is less colorful with the passing of Dennis Jule Deckard.  He left this life on September 19, 2021, for smoother highways and bluer skies. He rode into this life, breaking the mold, on February 26, 1947, as the only child of H. Glenn & Opal (Baquet) Deckard, who preceded his death.

Dennis lived life to the fullest according to his own rules. A master in the war of words, he knew he won when they dotted his eye. Dennis served in the Army in 1969, then earned his Bachelor of Arts in psychology from SIU in 1976. He was a counselor by trade and nature, counseling children and working with those in need. Dennis was a shoulder for all in turmoil whether they wanted it or not. After retirement, unable to sit still, he went back to work and found his place at Grimebusters.

Life is sadly a lot quieter without his unique insights, but his presence in the lives of those who loved him is too strong to fade.

He is survived by his daughter, Angel Herrmann (Brandon Kueker); and his grandson, Colten Kueker, the lights of his life. He is also survived by all those who loved him and all those who loved to hate him.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to “Needy Paws” in honor of Dennis’ love for animals. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.rennerfh.com.

Visitation: A celebration of life will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday, October 3, 2021, at the Quail Club, Belleville, IL. Event link: https://m.facebook.com/events/401986757945528 . Please bring all your best “Dennis” stories.

I have known this man since I was 8 years old. My life has been changed in so many ways by his presence in it. We had seen the best and worst of each other throughout the years, but were always there when the other needed help. I am going to miss this man more than he ever could have known..
