Dee worked for IDOT for 65 years and was very proud of the Illinois Department of Transportation Service Award she received when she retired.  She was an avid doll collector featuring a wide variety from Betty Boop to Frank Sinatra to John Wayne. Dee was a faithful fan of NCIS and Blue Bloods and her music of choice was the amazing voice of Jim Nabors.   She also enjoyed listening to David Schumacher, known as “Farmer Dave”, every morning at 5 a.m. on the radio.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph F. and Emily, nee Hoffarth, Cunningham; her brother, Justice Joseph Cunningham; and her sister, Mary Boyle; her brother-in-law, William Boyle; and sister-in-law, Mary Cunningham.

Surviving are three nieces and one nephew, Dolores “Dolo” Boyle, Carolyn (Roy) Lantry, Dr. J. Thomas “Tom” (Dr. Rebecca) Cunningham, and Da-Niel Cunningham;
five great-nieces and great-nephews, Brian (Amanda) Lantry, Sean Cunningham, Sarah (Nick) Hayden, Kate (Andrew) Cunningham-Murgia, and Shayne Meeker;
two great-great-nephews, Robert Hayden and Jaxon Lantry;
a great-great-niece, Callie Hayden;
and a very special friend who was like a niece to her, Kaye Suryk.

Dee’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Home Instead and Hospice workers with a special thank you to the two CNA’s that took loving care of her every need. Additional thanks go to the many IDOT employees who gave her rides to and from work for all 65 years, especially Tina Cain.

I worked with Miss Dee at IDOT. She was such a joy. She made you want to be a better person. I miss seeing her shy smile. I know Heaven is a little brighter with her light shining up there.

I'm sorry to hear of Dolores's passing. I only knew her a short while from taking care of her but heaven definitely gained a special angel.
