Mr. Dewein’s family owned and operated Dewein’s Garage & Towing Service, formerly in Belleville. Don attended SIU-Carbondale and majored in music, where he was president of Phi Mu Alpha Music Fraternity. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy where his musical talents were showcased. Upon returning home, he worked for the family business, met his wife, and built a family, and became a talented truck painter known for the precision and detail in his work. Don’s love for all things music, model airplanes, VW bugs named Herbie, and working in his gardens will be forever cherished by his loved ones.
Don was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Judith (nee Cange) Dewein, whom he married on October 9, 1965, and who died on January 21, 2006; his parents, Irvin W. and Elizabeth (nee Hessler) Dewein; and a sister-in-law, Betty Sue McCauley.
He is survived by a son, Jeffrey (Mary) Dewein of St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada; a daughter, Renee (Michael) Chapman of St. Louis, MO; and three grandchildren, Collin and Ethan Chapman and Carmenmarie Dewein.
