Donna Young

Print Obituary
Donna Jeanne Young, nee Shepherd, 78, of Belleville, IL, born February 10, 1944, in East St. Louis, IL, died Friday, August 12, 2022, after a brief fight with cancer.

Donna started her career with a St. Louis news station. She then worked for A.G. Edwards, where she worked her way up from broker’s assistant to running the A.G. Edwards broadcasting department, and then moved on to marketing.  Donna was always involved in her community and many groups. She was active in the League of Women Voters, Women in Leadership, St. Paul United Church of Christ, Belleville, IL, the Community Interfaith Food Pantry, Highland Neighborhood Association, and many other causes. Donna ended her career in the church office at St. Paul United Church of Christ, where she enjoyed her job immensely. She especially enjoyed the days the preschool children were in session.  She said seeing those smiling little faces, hearing their giggles and sometimes tears, touched her heart. That’s what life is all about, live life to the fullest, don’t be afraid to tell family and friends that you love them, stay in touch, call, text, write, visit…. each day is a new beginning.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gene and Mary, nee Standerfer, Shepherd.

She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Jim Young; two sons, Robert (Shannon) Young and Stephen (Jamie) Young; a granddaughter, Allyson Young; a sister, Debi (Jerry) Schifferdecker; two nieces, Courtney (Joe) Boron and Kayce (Kyle) Ketrow; an uncle, Floyd Sauerhage; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Community Interfaith Food Pantry or to St. Paul’s United Church of Christ. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.rennerfh.com.

Visitation:  Friends may visit from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, August 20, 2022, at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Belleville, IL.

Funeral:  Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 20, 2022, at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Belleville, IL, with Rev. Michelle Torigian officiating.

I am so sorry to hear this sad news. Donna and I worked together in Corporate Communications at A.G. Edwards. She was always friendly. Nothing got her down. She always had a twinkle in her eye. She was very smart and often would just take care of whatever needed to be done. There’s so much more that could be said about this friend of many. I was blessed to have the opportunity to know my colleague and friend Donna.
