Earl Raymond Espenschied, 94, of Freeburg, IL, born October 25, 1928, in Mascoutah, IL, died Sunday, May 28, 2023, at Mar-Ka Nursing Home, Mascoutah, IL.

 Mr. Espenschied was a retired farmer. He was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Smithton, IL. Earl served on the Freeburg School District 70 School Board for 16 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of the American Legion GEM Post 937, Smithton, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Philip A. and Elsie, nee Culli, Espenschied; five brothers, Allen, Erwin, Harvey, Oliver, and Alvin Espenschied; and a sister, Anita Espenschied.

Surviving are his wife of 65 years, June A., nee Grohmann, Espenschied, whom he married on September 7, 1957;
one daughter, Ellen (Rachel Dorset) Dickinson of Wilton, CT;
three sons, Carl Espenschied of Walsh, IL, Neil Espenschied of Freeburg, IL, and Dean (Tana) Espenschied of Monticello, IL;
four grandchildren, Emma Espenschied, Will Espenschied, Haldan Dickinson, and Quinn Dickinson;
and a sister-in-law, Betty Espenschied.

Visitation:  Friends may visit from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, June 1, 2023, at St. John’s United Church of Christ, Smithton, IL.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, June 1, 2023, at St. John’s United Church of Christ, Smithton, IL, with Rev. Brian Damrow officiating.

Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery, Freeburg, IL.
