Elizabeth M. “Betty” Deckard, nee Franke, 95, of Swansea, IL, born March 10, 1922, in East St. Louis, IL, died Friday, March 24, 2017, in Red Bud, IL.

Mrs. Deckard worked as an accountant and bookkeeper for the Shadid Accounting Firm in Belleville, IL, for   Schirmer’s Market & Garden Shop in Granite City, IL, and was a volunteer for Hospice of Southern Illinois. She was a former member of St. Albert the Great Catholic Church, Fairview Heights, IL, and belonged to the St. Ann Altar Sodality at the church.  Mrs. Deckard was a member of the American Legion Freedom Farm Post 58 Auxiliary and a member of AARP.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, H. Glenn Deckard, whom she married on April 30, 1960, and who died on November 10, 1994; her parents, George Jr. and Elsie A., nee Lucas, Franke; a brother-in-law, Art Mattingly; and her grandson-in-law, Ray Nagel.

Surviving is a daughter, Barbara Ann Deckard of O’Fallon, IL;
four grandchildren, Sherri (Eric) Stephens,
Tina Nagel, Tim (Beth) Goeddel,
and Susan Marie (Tom) Esker;
seven great-grandchildren, Danielle (Matt) Leedle,
Heather Nagel (Josh Brockhorst),
Rebeka Nagel (Tyler Hern),
Colten Stephens,
Lauren and Joe Goeddel,
and Abbi Esker;
three great-great-grandchildren, Carson Hern,
Brody Leedle, and Kaliana Brunkhorst;
one sister, Rita Mattingly of Belleville, IL;
a niece, Patty (Larry) Matysik,
and a nephew,    Dennis (Kathryn) Mattingly.

Visitation:  Friends may visit with the family from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday, March 27, 2017, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, IL.

Funeral:  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 27, 2017, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, IL, with Fr. Ray Schultz officiating.

Burial will be at Walnut Hill Cemetery, Belleville, IL.

My sympathy and prayers to Betty’s family. I remember her from the time I was a girl when she worked for my father, Melvin Shadid. She was also a good friend to my mother Margaret after my dad died. May she rest in peace.
