Elizabeth S. Walther, nee Griffaw, 98, of Belleville, IL, born January 3, 1923, in Crosstown, MO, died Sunday, October 17, 2021, at Mar-Ka Nursing & Rehabilitation, Mascoutah, IL.

Elizabeth was a loving and dedicated homemaker, devoted to her husband and children. She took an active role volunteering at her children’s school and teaching Sunday School. She loved watching her family grow over the years and was a faithful member of the Lutheran Church. She enjoyed traveling and loved visiting with her friends and playing bingo at PSOP. Elizabeth was a member and past Conductress of the Mascoutah VFW Post 7682.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Earl V. Walther, whom she married on January 6, 1946, and who died on April 6, 2004; her parents, Lawrence and Anna, nee Juengel, Griffaw; two brothers in infancy, Louis and Lawrence Griffaw; and a brother-in-law, Woodrow Obermann.

Surviving are a daughter, Elizabeth L. (Richard) Bogue of Mascoutah, IL; a son, Victor P. (Kyoung) Walther of Flowery Branch, GA; seven grandchildren, Anna (John) Leary, Victor Jr (Rachel) Walther, Timothy (Julie) Oplt, Dr. Janell Walther (Bryan) Seck, Jennifer (Brett) Paulson, Daniel (Sarah) Walther, and Jun Park; 10 great-grandchildren, Matthew Knight, Joshua (Sydney) Knight, Lorren (Elliott) Jacobson, Kailen Walther, Miriam Seck, Kaylee, Brynn, and Cora Paulson, and Ryan and Beryl Walther; a sister, Ruth Etta Obermann; many nieces and nephews; and friends.

Visitation:  Friends may visit from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, October 22, 2021, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, IL, and from 12 to 1 p.m. Saturday, October 23, 2021, at Zion Lutheran Church, Belleville, IL. Standard CDC guidelines, including masks and social distancing will be observed.

Funeral:  Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 23, 2021, at Zion Lutheran Church, Belleville, IL, with Rev. Darwin Schrader officiating.

Burial will be at 9:45 a.m. Monday, October 25, 2021, at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO.
