In her younger years, Emily worked at the New Athens Shoe Factory. She spent many years working side by side with her daughter on the family farm.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Cortner, who died on October 19, 1989; her parents, Adam and Appolonia, nee Roth, Armbruster; her brother, Robert Armbruster; a brother-in-law, Leo Banach; her mother-in-law, Marcella Rettinghouse; and a nephew, William Armbruster.
She is survived by her daughter, Geralyn “Gerri” Cortner; her sister, Doris Banach of Scheller, IL; and many dear nieces and nephews.
Emily loved quilting so much. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Michael’s Quilters, to buy supplies for the beautiful quilts they make for the church picnic and Masses. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.rennerfh.com.
Visitation: Friends may visit from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, April 27, 2024, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Paderborn, IL.
Funeral: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 27, 2024, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Paderborn, IL, with Fr. Clyde Grogan officiating.
Burial will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Paderborn, IL.
