Florence H. Briggs, nee Neal, 98, of Belleville, IL, born February 18, 1917, in East St. Louis, IL, died Friday, February 12, 2016, at Four Fountains Convalescent Center, Belleville, IL.

Mrs. Briggs was a 1936 graduate of St. Teresa’s Academy, East St. Louis, IL.  She was a member of the Meat Cutters Union Local 534, and worked as a meat wrapper for the Kroger Company, Belleville, IL.  She was a longtime parishioner of St. Teresa’s Catholic Church, Belleville, IL, and was an active volunteer at the church.

Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Harry S. Briggs; one daughter, Mary Agnes (Eugene) Lorentzen; three grandchildren, Mary Ann Lorentzen, Mark Lorentzen, and Margie Lorentzen; her parents, Fred and Agnes, nee Lorentzen, Neal; three brothers; and four sisters.

Surviving are her son, Eugene “Spike” (Susie) Briggs;
eight grandchildren, Michael (Nancy) Lorentzen,
Gelene Lorentzen,
Thomas (Mary Jane) Briggs,
Mary Terese (Robert) Mathews,
Beth Ann (James) Atkinson,
Christine (James) Wessel,
Ann Marie (Donald) Reinhardt,
and Douglas (Angela) Briggs;
15 great-grandchildren, Michael Lorentzen,
Justine and Jeffery Pratt,
Adrienne (Salman) Suhail,
James (Desirae) Atkinson,
Hannah, Evan, Hillary, Mary Catherine, and Michael Wessel,
Lauren Reinhardt,
Jessica Hunter,
and Jack, Josie, and Julia Briggs;
and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or to S.A.V.E.  Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.rennerfh.com.

Visitation: Friends may visit from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday, February 15, 2016, at St. Peter’s Cathedral, Belleville, IL.

Funeral:  A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday, February 15, 2016, at St. Peter’s Cathedral, Belleville, IL, with Fr. Vincent Mukasa officiating.  Burial will follow at Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, IL.
