Fr. Urban Figge, OMI, 89, died Sunday, January 3, 2021, in Belleville, IL.

Fr. Urban was born on December 24, 1931, to the late Frank and Theresa Figge in Ste. Genevieve, MO.  His Oblate education was at St. Henry’s Prep in Belleville, IL, Immaculate Heart of Mary Novitiate, Godfrey, IL, St. Joseph’s Scholasticate in Ottawa, Canada, and Our Lady of the Snows Scholasticate in Pass Christian, MS.  He professed first vows as a Missionary Oblate of Mary Immaculate in 1952 and was ordained a priest in 1957.

His ministry included serving in the missions in Scandinavia and in Greenland.  He also served as a member of the pastoral team at the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows.  Another assignment was at St. Henry’s Oblate Residence in Belleville, IL before retiring at the Esquiline Community, where he resided at the time of his death.

Fr. Urban Figge, OMI, was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Theresa Figge; four brothers, Clarence (Bud), Figge, Fr. Edwin Figge, Fr. Leo Figge, OMI, and Gilbert Figge; two sisters, Gladys Jokerst and Berdella Long; brothers-in-law, Oliver Jokerst and Joseph Long; and sisters-in-law, Edna Figge and Georgia Figge.

Mourning his passing are many nieces and nephews and 3700 Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate serving in 60 countries.

 In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate, 9480 North De Mazenod Drive, Belleville, IL 62223. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.rennerfh.com.

Visitation:  Friends may visit from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Thursday, January 7, 2021, at the Church of Our Lady of the Snows, Belleville, IL. Standard CDC guidelines, including masks and a limited number of visitors at any one time will be observed.

Funeral:  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, January 7, 2021, at the Church of Our Lady of the Snows, Belleville, IL. The service will be live streamed.  Standard CDC guidelines, including masks and a limited number of visitors at any one time will be observed.

Burial will be at the St. Henry Oblate Cemetery, Belleville, IL.

May God rest his soul, through the intercession of our most Blessed Mother and St. Joseph! I didn't know him, but I am sure he will be missed. In Thanksgiving for his service.

So sorry to lose my last uncle. Will surely miss him many prayers are being said. May he rest in peace With 40years of mission work he is with jesus now.
