Print Obituary
Gary James Speakes, 62, of Belleville, IL, born January 24, 1958, in Washington, MO, died Thursday, May 14, 2020, at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, O’Fallon, IL.

Gary worked in HVAC and carpentry and retired from MoDOT.  After that retirement, he joined the local union and continued his career in HVAC, carpentry, and apartment maintenance. People always say that they married their soul-mate, their better half, their other half to make them whole. Gary and his wife, Rita, were born exactly three days apart, the same year. They loved weekend road trips and finding new places to visit.

He was preceded in death by a son, Brian S. Speakes.

Surviving are his wife, M. Rita, nee Vance, Speakes;
a son, James R. Speakes of St. Clair, MO;

Dearest Rita, Always remember that God's arms are still around you just as they were when he brought you and Gary together. I only met Gary once, but that was all it took to see the love that brought and kept you two together. God's love and blessings throughout your life with Gary must have left a huge warmth in your life that you can continue to cherish till you are together again. Prayers for serenity and peacefulness in your days to come.
