George A. “Butch” Lewis, Jr., 59, of Belleville, IL, born November 18, 1959, in Belleville, IL, unexpectedly left this earthly world Saturday, January 5, 2019, at Memorial Hospital, Belleville, IL.

Butch was a 1982 graduate of McKendree University where as a golfer he was the most valuable player on the school’s first team in any sport to qualify for a national tournament.  After graduation, Butch embarked on a successful career at A.G. Edwards, through their transition to Wells Fargo Securities, having attained the position of Director in Equity Capital Markets.

On January 2, 1988, Butch married his life’s love, Ann, a union that produced three children. A dedicated husband and father, Butch loved his family with all his heart and they always remained first and foremost in his life.

Preceding him in death were his dear mother, Loraine, nee Hunt, Lewis; two sisters, Gale A. Lewis and Kay L. Kalotek; his mother-in-law, Dolores J. Burnworth, and a brother-in-law, Michael G. Burnworth.

Left to mourn his passing are his loving wife of 31 years, Ann M., nee Burnworth, Lewis; his daughter, Rachel G. (fiancé, Zac Choate) Lewis; two sons, Clay G. Lewis and Cole M. Lewis; his father, George A. Lewis, Sr.; two sisters, Susanne Colone and Clara McClure; his father-in-law, William “Bill” Burnworth; and a special niece, Ashley (Andrew) Langenstein.  Also cherishing his memory are in-laws, nieces, nephews, former classmates, golfing buddies, and dear friends.

Butch touched the lives of all whose paths he crossed, and the world will truly be a lesser place with his loss.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Grade School or Caritas Family Solutions. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.rennerfh.com.

Ann and family. I never met you but I had the privilege of knowing our husband and the childrens' father for 30 years. Butch and I are part of the AGE family. I now live in AR and work for a bank. I was in STL in March and saw Butch at WFA and told him and Dave this would be the last time I would be at 1 North Jefferson. I thanked them for being a great partner with me and the many laughs we shared in person or on the phone. I always called Butch and asked if he had any good syndicate and he always replied, "all our syndicate is good." Butch was and is a good man, I will miss him, but I will never forget him. I am so sadden to hear of Butch’s passing. He was so great and enjoyable to work with these past 10 years . He always put a smile on my face. We had many conversations on many different subjects but mostly about his family who he loved so much. I am truly sorry for your loss as I know you all were the center of his universe. He was a great man and will be sorely missed. Rest In Peace my friend.

This was such sad news. My prayers go out to Butch’s Family. Butch was always so personable and I never saw him having a bad day. He treated the Cleaning Lady as well as the Executives, a good example for all of us. He always had such a positive attitude and always lifted your spirits any time you came in contact with him. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.

We were so saddened to hear of Butch’s passing. While we only worked with Butch for about 2 years, he was such a help as we moved our practice in late 2016. Butch was always a straight shooter, but also had a great sense of humor. He cared that we did well and that was greatly appreciated. I almost always felt better after speaking with him. Ann, you and your family will be in our thoughts and prayers.

To the Lewis family: Please accept my sincere condolences. Butch and I attended McKendree University together. On the rare occasion Butch missed class, I'd give him my notes, and in return, he'd give me golf lessons. If you ask me, I received much more than I gave.
