Gerald A. (Jerry) Geppert of Belleville, IL, born June 23, 1938, in East St. Louis, IL, died Thursday, March 9, 2017, at Freeburg Care Center, surrounded by his loving family.

Jerry graduated from Saint Louis University and Southern Illinois University with his Bachelor and Master degrees in Mathematics. He retired from Ralston Purina in St. Louis as Director of Marketing and Sales Analysis for Grocery Products and Illinois Power Company in Decatur, Illinois.  Jerry loved and participated in all sports. He particularly enjoyed golf, bowling and skiing. He also enjoyed attending all of the sports games in which his grandchildren participated.

Jerry was a member of the Serra Club of St. Clair County and the Knights of Columbus Council #592. He belonged to Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church for 49 years, where he served as a Lector and was a member of the School Board.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony J. and Anna, nee Kus, Geppert; his stepmother, Mary Geppert; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Daniel and Marie O’Brien; and two brothers, Allen Geppert, and Walter Geppert.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary Ann, nee O’Brien, Geppert, whom he married on October 19, 1963, at St. Patrick’s Church in East St. Louis, IL, by Msgr. Lawrence O’Connell;
three daughters of whom he was extremely proud, Elizabeth (David) Nester of Millstadt, IL,
Anne (James) Nisbet of Chesterfield, MO,
and Ellen (James) Federer of Chesterfield MO;
seven grandchildren in whom he delighted, Maggie and Joey Nester,
Kate and Jimmy Nisbet,
Molly, Jimmy and Danny Federer;
five step-grandchildren, Gregory (Laura Reppert) Nester,
Claire, Becky and Ellen Nester;
two step-great-grandsons, Connor and Kaden Nester;
a sister, Mary (Albert) Wayt of Belleville, IL;
a brother, Paul (Debbie) Geppert of Belleville, IL;
a step-sister, Lois (William) Bergman of Perryville, MO;
two sisters-in-law, Eileen (Gerald) Wiegers, and Pamela Geppert, both of Belleville, IL;
and many nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Freeburg Care Center and Family Hospice of Belleville for their care, love and support.

Visitation:  Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 17, 2017, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, IL, and from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, March 18, 2017, at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Belleville, IL

Funeral:  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 18, 2017, at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church Belleville, IL, with Rev. Matthew Elie officiating.

Burial will be at Mount Carmel Catholic Cemetery, Belleville, IL.
