Mrs. Margiotta was a member of St. Peter’s Cathedral, Belleville, IL. She was a great seamstress and a member of the ladies quilting group at church. Gert was well-known for her tasty rolls at the annual chicken and dumpling dinner at Cathedral, and she was a cook in the Cathedral Grade School cafeteria for 21 years before her retirement. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who will be deeply missed.
She was preceded in death by the love of her life for 69 years, Vincent J. Margiotta, whom she married on November 9, 1950, and who died on January 16, 2020; her parents, Frank and Frances, nee Schroer, Macke; a brother, Wilbert Macke; and two sisters, Rosemary Bujnak, and Hedwig (Gilbert) Birkner.
Surviving are three sons, Ronald (Sally) Margiotta of Albany, OR, Daniel (Lynn) Margiotta of Troy, MO, and Michael Margiotta of Alexandria, VA; three daughters, Donna Margiotta of Swansea, IL, Janet Lauf of Belleville, IL, and Cristina Cassady of Edmonds, WA; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles (Cathy) Macke; a sister, Marcella Orsa; nieces and nephews.

Funeral: Funeral procession will leave at 9:30 a.m. Friday, August 27, 2021, from George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, IL, for a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter’s Cathedral, Belleville, IL, with Msgr. John Myler officiating. Masks will be required.
Burial will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Shiloh, IL.
