Harold “HAP” Yung, 95, of Belleville, IL, born February 29, 1928, in Belleville, IL, died Sunday, November 5, 2023, at his residence.

Harold graduated from Belleville Township High School in 1946. He attended the University of Illinois, earning his bachelor’s in science, master’s in education, and different specialist degrees. Harold was a United States Army Korean War veteran, serving for two years, obtaining the rank of Sergeant. He taught in Caseyville and Edwardsville for three and half years. Harold spent 34 years as a Math Teacher and Administrator for Belleville School District 201. He also was a part time teacher at BAC, now SWIC, for 35 years. Harold was very active in the field of music as a trombone player, for over 70 years, playing in several concert and dance bands.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer J. and Irma, nee Mohr, Yung.

Surviving are his three children, Mark Yung, Debi McConnell, and Todd (Lisa) Yung; seven grandchildren, Chad (Jackie), Cami, Justin, Joshua, Jordan, Logan, and Mitchell; four great-grandchildren, Skyler, Kaisen, Liam, and Raelynn; his brother, Robert Yung; and special friend, Kara Yung.

Memorials may be made to Belleville Area Humane Society or to Hospice of Southern Illinois. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.rennerfh.com.

Visitation:  Friends may visit from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, November 11, 2023, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, IL.

Funeral: Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 11, 2023, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, IL, with Steve Barrett officiating.

Burial will be held at Walnut Hill Cemetery, Belleville IL, at a later date.

To the children of Hap Yung, Mark, Debi, Todd: my Sympathy to all of you. Hap was a long time friend of Jim and mine. We enjoyed his company on many occasions.. Sincere sympathy to Haps brother.
