Mr. Espenschied was a retired farmer and had served as Smithton Township Road Commissioner for more than 20 years. A U.S. Army veteran, Harvey was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He will be dearly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Phillip A. and Elsie, nee Culli, Espenschied; a sister, Anita Espenschied; and four brothers, Allen, Erwin, Oliver, and Alvin Espenschied.
Surviving are his wife of 38 years, Betty Rae, nee Fredrick, Espenschied , whom he married on November 24, 1976 ;
a son, Dwight Dean (Megan) Espenschied of Freeburg, IL;
a stepson. William Allan (Caylea) Batson Jr. of Irondale, MO;
six grandchildren, Wyatt and Audrey Espenschied,
and Caydence, Cameryn, Cody, and Christian Batson;
a brother, Earl (June ) Espenschied of Freeburg, IL;
and nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John’s United Church of Christ, Smithton, IL.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, September 13, 2015, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, IL.
Funeral: A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Sundat at the funeral home, with Deacon Corby Valentine officiating. Harvey’s ashes will be spread on the family farm.

Harvey was such a great person. Always a friendly smile. He would always stop and talk to you. I remember my sister, Patty Lickfield being so thankful to Harvey and Dwight. She was newly widowed and the drive way was covered in snow. They came and dug her a way out. My dad Roland Press and Harvey were friends from way back and he spoke highly of Harvey.
