Hazel M. Kehrer, nee Diveley, 80, formerly of Freeburg, IL, born March 1, 1941, in Sefton Township, IL, passed away Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at Aperion Care, Mascoutah, IL.

Mrs. Kehrer was a teacher in the Freeburg School District before her retirement. She loved singing and playing the piano. Hazel always had a pleasant outlook and a zest for life. Her beautiful smile and contagious laughter will remain a treasured memory for all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 22 years, Russell J. Kehrer, Sr, whom she married on February 4, 1966, and who died on July 12, 1988; a son Russell J. Kehrer, Jr.; her parents, Cecil and Ethel, nee Pope, Diveley; a sister, Ruby Alcorn; and a son-in-law, Henry “Sonny” Pitts.

Surviving are children, Melodee L. Lang of Cedar Hill, MO, Robert A. Kehrer of Cape Girardeau, MO, and Scott L. (Jim Cochran) Kehrer of Belleville, IL; two grandchildren, Jerry R. Lang of St. Louis, MO, and Brent A. (Ilse) Lang of Victoria, TX; two great-grandchildren, Alan A. Lang- Rodriguez and Ethan I. Lang- Rodriguez; two sisters, Dorothy (Jack) Rees of Troy, IL, and Betty (Rick) Carr of Lady Lake, FL; a brother, James Dively of Caseyville, IL; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Massman and Pearl (Mauro “Rod”) Rodriguez; and many dear nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.rennerfh.com.

Visitation:  Friends may visit from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, December 5, 2021, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Freeburg, IL. Masks are required.

Funeral:  Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, December 5, 2021, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Freeburg, IL. Masks are required.

Private burial will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO.

Please accept our sincere expression of sympathy. Your parents, Russell and Hazel, were favorites - always a fun time when visiting - one time in particular, my brother and I got to go along with your dad to pick up Aunt Hazel from the hospital- we sat in the back seat of his corvair and waited - they were bringing you home, Melodee! Your mom was so excited to have you! And it was the same with the birth of Johnny, Bobby and Scotty. So much happiness… cherish the wonderful memories always…

So sorry to hear about your mother I wish I could stop by to see you all but my mobility is very bad lately with my health she was a very nice and fun person

Deepest sympathies to Melodee, Robert and Scott and family. Aunt Hazel will always be close to my heart with her caring nature. Her laughter was contagious and brought smiles to our faces. You will be missed !! Love you always, Stella and Clete.
