Print Obituary
Hazel V. Marquis, nee Morgan, 98, of Freeburg, IL, formerly of Venice, IL, born February 26, 1919 in Sandusky, OH, passed away Saturday, March 11, 2017, at Freeburg Care Center, Freeburg, IL.

Hazel loved Jesus and her family more than anything! She was a tithing Media Member of Jimmy Swaggart Ministries and received the Baptism in the Holy Spirit at age 91 while watching JSM.

When she was 49 years old, her husband Bill passed away.  She only had an eighth grade education so she went to Granite City, received her GED and then went on to nursing school at Rock Jr. High School in East St. Louis, Illinois, graduating in 1955.  She was a dedicated nurse and loved her patients. She worked at hospitals and nursing homes. She was a visiting nurse in Green County, MO, and did private duty nursing until she was 89.  Many times she would clock out and go back on her own time to give extra help to residents or just visit with someone who never had any visitors.  She longed to go back to work.

Hazel had been at Freeburg Care Center since June, 2016.  She loved everyone there and they loved her.  She would always try to help other residents.  The staff at Freeburg Care Center was very good to her.  Most will remember her hugs and back scratches.

She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother!

Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Marquis; two sons, Bill Jr. (Betty) Marquis, and Don (Susan) Marquis; a son in infancy, James Marquis; a grandson Gary Heil; her parents, Stephen and Adelaide, nee Beil, Morgan; two brothers, Glen (Ruth) Morgan, and Harold (Mildred) Morgan; a sister, Donelda (Joe) Holzum; nieces, Loriane Smith and Cecelia Alonso; and nephews, Glen Morgan and Doug Schroder.

Surviving to cherish her memory are her daughter Ruth and husband Jerry, whom Hazel always referred to as her son, not son-in-law; grandchildren, Dale Heil, John Heil, Kathy and Curt Caswell, Mark and Marla Heil, Julie and Daryle Barnett, Tammy and Bob Hoffman, Mike Marquis, and Jason Marquis; great-grandchildren, Jake and Ali Caswell, Nick Caswell, Joshua, Natalie, and Ryan Heil,Kimberly and Tad Fatum, Mindy and James Tamplin; great-great-grandchildren, Landon and Blake Tamplin, Liam and Hudson Fatum; nieces, Jean, Debbie, Cheryl, Dorothy, Sherry, Mildred, Virginia and Barbara; and nephews, David, Bill, Harold and Carl.

Memorials may be made in Hazel’s memory to Hospice of Southern Illinois, or to Freeburg Care Center.  Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.rennerfh.com.
