Helen E. Fitzgerald, nee Feder, 90, of Shiloh, IL, born June 18, 1930, in Belleville, IL, died Sunday, May 30, 2021, at Memorial Hospital East, Shiloh, IL.

Mrs. Fitzgerald was a federal employee at Scott Air Force Base for 35 years before her retirement.  She was a member of NARFE and the Daughters of Isabella.  Helen was a faithful member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Belleville, IL, and more recently, a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Shiloh, IL.  She loved to travel, was a long-time member of Linus Blankets of Southwestern Illinois and enjoyed her membership with the O’Fallon Card Club.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Hubert “Jerry” Fitzgerald, who died on July 23, 2009; her parents, Walter and Anna M., nee Mueller, Feder; and a sister, Mary Ann “Mutz” (Robert) Michard.

Surviving are two sons and a daughter, Gary (Mary) Fitzgerald, James (Nancy) Fitzgerald, and Linda Mehrtens; seven grandchildren, Sara (Michael) Codella, Suzanne (Raiford) Gainey, Amy (Jason) Flowers, David Fitzgerald, William H. Fitzgerald, Tommy (Emily) Kish, and Elizabeth “Libby” Schulte (fiancé, Aaron Cummins); a step-granddaughter, Mysty Johnson; two great-grandchildren, Connor Fitzgerald Codella and Corrine Codella; and nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 205 Rasp Street, Shiloh, IL 62269, or to Evelyn’s House (BJC Hospice House), 1000 North Mason Road, Creve Coeur, MO 63141. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.rennerfh.com.

Visitation:  Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, 2021, and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Thursday, June 3, 2021, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, IL. CDC guidelines including masks and social distancing will be observed.

Funeral:   Funeral procession will leave at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, June 3, 2021, from George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, IL, for a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Shiloh, IL, with Father James Thomas officiating. CDC guidelines including masks and social distancing will be observed.

Burial will be at Green Mount Catholic Cemetery, Belleville, IL.

I lost a very dear friend with the passing of Helen. We worked together at Scott AFB, traveled together, played golf, Red Hats, Linus Blankets.

I got to know Helen through her daughter-in-law Mary when she invited me to join their card group. It was always fun but especially entertaining when Helen and her sister Mutz would pick at each other in good fun and I can picture them back together now picking up where they left off. May you rest in Peace.
