Mrs. Rhein previously worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Belleville, IL and belonged to the Women’s Day Fellowship at the church. She was active with the Kinder Cottage in East St. Louis and a member of the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Leon B. Rhein, whom she married on August 18, 1949, and who died on February 3, 2008; her parents, Charles A. and Martha, nee Lewis, Mitchell; four sisters, Margaret Harper, Ann Fellner, Eleanor Schmitt, Betty Macke; a brother, Charles Mitchell; and one nephew.
Surviving are her son, Leon Kip Rhein;
two grandchildren, Lauren Rhein and Lindsay Rhein.
a sister, Peggy Funsch;
and nieces and nephews.

Visitation: A celebration of life will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 16, 2017, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, IL.
Private family burial will be at a later date at Walnut Hill Cemetery, Belleville, IL.

I sat at Helen’s table for the last two years. She was the unacknowledged ruler of the table. One of the first things she told me was “the table’s for eating, not conversation”. You could have talk until the food came, but then you ate. All in all, it was a delight sharing her table these last two years.
