
Helen loved spending time with her family, especially if it involved a game of cards, board games, or dominoes. She enjoyed lunches with her dear friends and she was an avid Cardinal baseball fan.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Seral A. Smith, whom she married on March 14, 1944, and who died on October 24, 2004; her parents, Julius J. and Helen B., nee Wottowa, St. Eve; a brother, Donald (Florence) St. Eve; and a nephew, Ralph Rowden.
She is survived by her 3 daughters: Jeanette (Jerome) Matusak, Marsha Smith, and Susan (Ernest Norman) Smith; 8 grandchildren: Jeffrey Schanter, Peter (Jennifer) Matusak, Kara (John) Botteicher, Nathan (Lori) Rinderer, Shannon (Sean) Mick, Alison (Jason) Roloff, Eric Smith-Norman (fiancée, Sue), and Kaitlin (Mark) Roloff; 16 great-grandchildren: Danielle Matusak, Raven Matusak, Rayce Matusak, Jacob Blake, Ella Rinderer, Lena Rinderer, Nora Rinderer, Hunter Mick, Kaylie Mick, Ryder Mick, Lila Mick, Ava Roloff, Evan Roloff, Baby Smith-Norman (on the way), Andrew Roloff, and Annabelle Roloff; 3 nieces: Jan (Terrence) O’Leary, Mary (Michael) Guest, and Barbara (Paul) Gass; and a niece-in-law, Sandy Rowden.

Funeral: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 8, 2022, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Freeburg, IL, with Father Von Deeke officiating.
Burial will be at Green Mount Catholic Cemetery, Belleville, IL, immediately following the church service.
