Herman “Hank” Louis Koesterer, 87, of Belleville, IL, born December 10, 1935, in East St. Louis, IL, died Saturday, April 8, 2023, at Memorial Hospital, Belleville, IL.

Herman retired in 2000 as the executive vice president of Drilling Services Company. He was a lifetime member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and lifetime Third Degree member of K of C Council 1028. Herman was a member of St. Teresa Catholic Church, Belleville, IL. He was a member of St. Teresa Catholic Church Choir for 39 years and had traveled to Rome in 1987, to sing for Pope John Paul II. Herman loved camping, fishing, and golf. He also enjoyed playing Pinochle, Euchre, and visiting Casinos. Herman was an avid St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan and enjoyed watching every game.  He was a former member of the United States Marine Corps Reserves. Most importantly, he was a loving husband, father, “paw paw” and great-papa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert J. and Katherine, nee Klein, Koesterer; two sisters, Cleopha Boze and Esther Webb; and five brothers, Bernard, Lawrence, Albert G., Ralph, and Rev. David Koesterer.

He is survived by his wife, who was the love of his life for 61 years, Nancy C. Koesterer, nee Wachtel, whom he married on September 4, 1961; two daughters, Cathy (Steven) Phelps and Carol (David) Shelton; two sons, David (Shannon) Koesterer and Brian Koesterer; two grandchildren, Lindsey (Alex) Emmons and Aaron (fiancée, Rachel LeBlanc) Phelps; two great-grandchildren, Bennett and Beau Emmons; four sisters-in-law, Lucille, Maureen, and Julie Koesterer, and Carla (Mike) Maier; nieces and nephews; and great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, and great-great nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, or the Alzheimer’s Association, or in the form of masses. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.rennerfh.com.

Visitation: Friends may visit from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, IL, and from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday, April 13, 2023, at St. Teresa Catholic Church, Belleville, IL.

Funeral: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 13, 2023, at St. Teresa Catholic Church, Belleville, IL, with Msgr. William McGhee officiating.

Burial will be at Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, IL.
