Irene was a homemaker. She was a member of St. John United Church of Christ, Smithton, IL, a charter member of the Smithton Historical Society, and former member of the St. Clair County Genealogical Society. The love for her family was the joy of Irene’s life. Her other interests included genealogy, reading, quilting, and crocheting.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert Weiss, whom she married on November 3, 1949, in Waterloo, IL, and who died on January 20, 2018; a son, Elton (Sandra Kay) Weiss; her parents, Alfred and Rose, nee Wiegand, Goeddel; and her sister, Pearl Robinson.
She is survived by a son, Alan Weiss; a daughter, Rebecca Worley; six grandchildren, Tris (Carrie) Weiss, Chi Weiss, Jason Weiss, Shannon (Brad) O’Donnell, Scott (Ashley) Worley, and Luke (Allison) Worley; eight great-grandchildren, Brianna Weiss, Parker Weiss, Killian Weiss, Jason Jr. Weiss, Brody O’Donnell, Julia O’Donnell, Tyler Worley, and Leo Worley; and one great-great-granddaughter on the way.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, October 9, 2023, at St. John United Church of Christ, Smithton, IL, with Rev. Brian Damrow officiating.
Burial will be at Walnut Hill Cemetery, Belleville, IL.
